Casa Vagar

Silver Coast countryside, Portugal5.0 · 24 reviews

Sleeps 4 2 bedrooms 2 shower rooms Whole place to yourselves

Unhurried is a place. A private house in the green folds of the Silver Coast — entirely, quietly yours.

Vagar is the Portuguese word for time without hurry — and this house is its address. Behind the gate: a pool held in a walled garden of agaves and magnolia, a vine-draped pergola strung with lanterns, and rooms that ask nothing of you. Upstairs, the beamed loft gathers the valley light through one wide window; downstairs, the wood stove ticks and the hydrangeas crowd the glass. There is no reception, no schedule, no one at the door. The key turns, the world stays outside, and the days pass the way they were always supposed to — com vagar.

Highlights

What makes it special

01

A pool with no schedule

Held in a walled garden of agaves, magnolia and box hedge — no shared loungers, no pool hours, no one else's playlist.

02

The loft upstairs

Under century-old chestnut beams: a wide bed, its own kitchenette and shower room, and a picture window that turns the valley into wallpaper.

03

Evenings under the vines

The pergola was made for long tables and longer conversations. Lanterns on, cicadas in the hedge, nowhere to be.

04

Quiet in every season

Wood stoves in both sitting rooms make winter its own reward — rain on the roof, chestnuts on the fire, total stillness.

Unhosted, on purpose

The gate closes. The house is yours.

There is no reception and no one on the doorstep. You let yourselves in, the fridge is cold, the beds are made, and the only footsteps in the garden are your own.

Quietly cared for by Valerie, who tends the garden and lives close by — a message away when needed, invisible when not.

Guest words

The loft is something else — waking under those beams with the valley in the window, kettle three steps away. We didn't set an alarm once.

The setting

Where you'll wake up

Deep in the green of the Silver Coast, down a lane the maps barely bother with — yet only 15 minutes from Caldas da Rainha, 20 from the medieval walls of Óbidos, and an easy drive to the Atlantic at Foz do Arelho and Baleal. Close to everything, bothered by nothing.
